Inside Kings Park Psychiatric Center Building 93

The Kings Park Psychiatric Center, known by Kings Park locals simply as “The Psych Center,“ was a former state-run psychiatric hospital located in Kings Park, New York. It operated from 1885 until 1996, when the State of New York closed the facility.

The hospital campus contained over 100 buildings, some of which were organized into groups that functioned together. Building 93, is a 13-story neoclassic building constructed in 1939 and was used for patient housing. Beginning in the 1970s, the upper floors began to close until less than a third of the building was in use by 1996. A friend of mine told me they knew how to get into building 93, these are some of the photos I was able to capture…

We entered through an opening that lead into the basement and made our way all the way to the top floor. Graffiti was visible from the moment we entered the building. On the Roof we had an amazing view of Long Island as the sun went down.

On the way down I noticed that each floor was nearly identical, with a central hallway that connected day rooms, dormitories, dining halls, and isolation chambers.

As the sun started to go down, things started to get a bit eerie so we decided to head back down to the basement to get out of the building.
