Plainview was once home to the Nassau County Sanitarium, a hospital that was built in the early 1930s to treat those with Tuberculosis disease. The Sanitarium is set on 140 acres and I was able to get into one of the smaller side buildings which may have been some kind of employee quarters? There are a few building still remaining on the property but we were told this was the easiest to get into…
This particular building wasn't too big, and as I walked through the halls each empty room seemed to be tagged with a quote/funny message or a beautifully painted graffiti piece.
There is much mystery concerning this property since no information can be found online about the Hospital or even when it closed. The only information I could find was that in 1999 Charles Wang, the owner of the NY Islanders, purchased the property.
I wish I was able to explore more and see what remains of the main hospital building; But we hear there is a Alarm sensor that will alert Security or police because valuable copper wiring can be found in it. So I guess it will remain a mystery.
